YOU ALL EVERYBODY

by Raquel Gariani

I just got up, and I think I’m still drunk--the best momento to write my column and talk to you. Yes, I’m impressed: I’ve been to the 'Butxaca party celebrating their 100th edition. Gosh, one edition per month. I was drinking wine like Caligula and just woke up with dry mouth. I have nothing in the kitchen. I’ve eaten a peach or nectarina or whatever. The party was great and I’ve found that my glasses are not broken.

I have to confess I’m leaving for my homeland. I’ll miss BCN WEEK and this free space to talk to you. A lot. I’m going crazy trying to get my 7 years of Barcelona under the fucking 20-kilo baggage limit. (Yes, I’m stupid. I was so nervous that I bought the worst ticket with Swiss Air with very limited luggage and there is no way to send it!!!)

Barcelona surprises me everyday. Yesterday I was with Joe doing a radio show for Scanner FM for our battle of the bands, and it was so cool, so much fun, that I thought we could have an incredible radio show together. But I’m leaving. I’ll have to start it all over again. It’s so difficult, it hurts so much… Nothing worse than packing this lousy luggage with all the things I love. It’s like trying to organize my Primavera Sound Schedule. Look, Thursday is easy: Public Enemy, Portishead, De La Soul on the big stage, then Explosions in the Sky on the ATP stage. Enon, British Sea Power and Vampire Weekend will be on ATP also, and on the far stage, Caribou. Friday I’ll start with Nick Lowe in the Auditori. After: The Cribs, The Sonics, Sebadoh, Devo, Polvo, Cat Power (is it necessary?), The Go Team and The Rumble Strips (hope they really come).

On Saturday night it will be a bit stressful. We’ll all be tired and there are too many things. The sensation that you might be losing the best concert ever will be big. Dangerous. For sure I’ll start with Devastations and then I’ll let my tired body choose. Silver Jews, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Les Savy Fav, Menomena, Mission of Burma, Rufus, Buffalo Tom, Dinosaur Jr, Deerhunter, Shellac, Tindersticks, Young Marble Giants will be in the Auditori so we can sit down a bit. Animal Collective. For sure I’ll be shaking my ass off in Simian Mobile Disco. They are amazing! Not to mention the showcases in Apolo or Sidecar, gosh, they’ll be everywhere. One great thing is the small concerts for free in Parc Joan Miró, such a great place and so near to my home!

The sensation leaving causes is quite strange. I’m just trying to occupy all my free hours so as not to think about what I’m leaving and how much I’ll have to do when I arrive. I went on vacation to my country not so long ago and God, I felt like a stranger. I couldn’t cross the streets. I was so confused in my own country. I have to go back. I’ll leave all my beloved friends behind. In fact, they are the best thing I have in Barcelona. Seriously, I don’t give a fuck about the architecture or the beach. Fuck that. I don’t want to remember Hereu; I don’t give a fuck about the grandmas spitting on me. I don’t care. I’ll miss my BCN WEEK people; I’ll miss all the things we try to organize to make this city fun and a better place. We make it a better place. Let’s talk about music, I’m getting too emotional. Check out Stereo Total and dance like a cabrón. For real rock’n’roll, Supagroup is what you need. Do you have a folk-country mysterious mood? King Creosote teaches you his secret. Black Halos rocks. Canadian Hip Hop with Cadence Weapon. Morcheeba in Espacio Movistar. Do you think you know where it is?

This dry mouth is killing me. I must confess I still believe, like Britney. I’ll be back, visiting soon. I can’t say goodbye or things like that, so let’s just keep rocking wherever we are. We are the best. I really love you and me and this.
